Increase ROM Utilization Through numerous
upgrades the CHPP processing rate was increased from 350TPH to a target of
1200TPH with an average of 1150TPH. To achieve this, a consistently higher
ROM throughput is needed with the ROM feed bin (RFB) being recognized as a
bottleneck requiring millions of dollars to upgrade. A team was formed to
follow the DMAIC process in order to identify the root causes and deliver
solutions with little to none of capital funding. Throughout the process of increasing the throughput it was identified
that automating the RFB feeder and directional gate would negate a number of
manual functions necessary to maintain a higher more consistent throughput.
This was supported by operator skill upgrading. Following the automation the
bin availability was increased on average by 9% with a subsequent increase in
utilization. This had a financial gain of under $2m annually in increased
production. |
