Increase Reclaimer Productivity

This project was implemented as a means to reduce CHPP reclaimer reconfiguration frequency by 17% by April 2008.

Baseline data presented an average weekly frequency of 9 reconfigurations, equating to a loss of more than 30,500 tonnes of saleable product per annum or $2.92m FOB.

Root causes were found to be:

·                            Raw Coal Feed Pile Size (Frequency increases with decreasing stockpile size)

·                            Operator poor skills (Some operators are unsure of how to manage reclaimer reconfiguring)

The solution to the raw coal stockpile size issue was to enforce a rule that all raw coal stockpiles must be at least 40,000 tonnes in size. Operator skills was treated as a quick win, and addressed immediately at pre-start meetings.

Since the implementation of this project, the frequency of reclaimer reconfigurations has dropped by 63%, exceeding the initial goal of 17% and increasing the CHPP productivity. This amounts to an extra $1.49m in revenue.
